Regular Season Round 17: Illiabum - Electrico FC 84-62

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Ilhavo. First ranked Illiabum faced 4th placed Electrico FC. Host Illiabum (16-1) smashed guests from Ponte de Sor (10-6) 84-62. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Electrico FC. It looked good early as Electrico FC took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Illiabum had a 32-16 second period charge getting the lead and Electrico FC was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 62-84. They outrebounded Electrico FC 43-30 including 31 on the defensive glass. Illiabum players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Electrico FC's players. The former international point guard Jaime Silva (187-80) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Power forward Mario Goncalves (208-80) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Illiabum players scored in double figures. Guard Joao Lanzinha (188-89) answered with 24 points and forward Pedro Afonso (198-83) added 11 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Electrico FC. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Illiabum have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 16-1 record, which they share with FC Porto. Electrico FC at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Illiabum will play against Benfica B (#8) in Lisboa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Electrico FC will play at home against Guifoes (#10) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
