There was a minor upset when 14th ranked Istanbul DSI (7-14) was edged at home by sixteenth ranked Pertevniyal (6-15) 77-74 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 9 points after three quarters before their 27-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Istanbul DSI outrebounded Pertevniyal 49-36 including 20 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Pertevniyal made 7 blocks. Istanbul DSI was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Nicholas Covington (188-85, college: Oklahoma City) who scored 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Burak Can Yildizli (202-94) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Covington is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Pertevniyal's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Damier Pitts (177-89, college: Marshall, agency: Two Points) who recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists and Croatian power forward Nenad Delic (210-84, agency: Alti Sport) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pertevniyal maintains sixteenth place with 6-15 record. Newly promoted Istanbul DSI dropped to the fifteenth position with 14 games lost. Pertevniyal's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Istanbul Darussafaka.
