There was no surprise when 9th ranked Sangalhos (6-11) were defeated on the road by second ranked FC Porto Ferpinta (16-1) 73-59 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 73-59. FC Porto Ferpinta dominated on the defensive end, holding Sangalhos to just 6 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Sangalhos 42-20 including a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Power forward Joao Torrie (200-91) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and forward Hugo Sota (199-93) chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Nuno Bizarro (192-80) responded with 11 points and 6 rebounds and guard Andre Duarte (178-81) scored 10 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for FC Porto Ferpinta. FC Porto Ferpinta keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Illiabum. Loser Sangalhos keep the ninth place with 11 games lost. FC Porto Ferpinta will meet at home Terceira (#5) in the next round. Sangalhos will play against Esgueira (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
