Regular Season Round 18: Craiova - Rovinari 87-85

The most exciting game of round 18 in the Liga Nationala took place in Craiova. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu (10-8) to eighth ranked Craiova (11-7) 87-85 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-21. But CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu won second period 23-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Craiova won last quarter 24-23. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Craiova made 10 blocks. 24 personal fouls committed by CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Travis Bureau (203-88, college: La-Lafayette) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. Center James Tyler (218-88) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds and 6 blocks. Tyler is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Louis Darby (196-84, college: Long Beach St.) who recorded 23 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and point guard Giordan Watson (178-85, college: Cent.Michigan, agency: IBS) added 17 points and 6 assists respectively. Five Craiova and four CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu players scored in double figures. Craiova moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Pitesti. CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu at the other side dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. Craiova is looking forward to face higher ranked U-Mobitelco (#4) in Cluj in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu will play at home against Gaz Metan (#11) and is hoping to win this game.
