Second Stage Round 1: Wels - Zepter Vienna 53-77
Date: February 16, 2014
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when Raiffeisen Wels (12-9) were crushed at home by Zepter Vienna (16-5) 77-53. The game was mostly controlled by Zepter Vienna. Raiffeisen Wels was better in second period 22-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Raiffeisen Wels to just 6 points in third quarter. It was a very good performance for Montenegrin Nikola Pavlicevic (192-88) who helped to win the game recording 15 points. The former international Jason Detrick (195-80, college: Oklahoma, agency: Three Eye Sports) contributed with 10 points and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Kelly Beidler (199-88, college: Mt.St.Mary's) answered with 16 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import center Deshawn Painter (206-90, college: ODU) added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Raiffeisen Wels. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zepter Vienna's next round opponent will be Gmunden Swans (#3) in Gmunden, which may be the game of the day. Raiffeisen Wels will play on the road against Gussing Knights and hope to win that game.
