Fourth-ranked Giessen 46ers (13-9) made lots of trouble for second ranked Crailsheim Merlins (18-5) on Sunday. Crailsheim Merlins managed to secure only ten-point victory 100-90. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 21-20 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a -3-point victory in double-overtime. Giessen 46ers were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American power forward Stevie Johnson (198-78, college: Iowa St.) who scored 25 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized American forward Jonathan Moore (203-82, college: N.C.Central) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. British forward Myles Hesson (198-90) produced 24 points and 9 rebounds and forward Thierno Agne (200-89, college: Northwood, FL) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Crailsheim Merlins. They maintain second place with 18-5 record having just two points less than leader Goettingen. Giessen 46ers at the other side dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Crailsheim Merlins will face ETB Wohnbau (#11) in Essen in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Giessen 46ers will play on the road against Bayer Giants (#13) in Leverkusen and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the BBL just one year after relegation.
