Regular Season Round 18: Hagen Phoenix - Koeln 66-79

There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Koeln (3-15) defeated on the road 9th ranked Hagen Phoenix (7-11) 79-66 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 79-66. It was a good game for guard Franziska Worthmann (186-86, college: Robert Morris) who led her team to a victory with 31 points (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Center MaxCeal Mebane (181-82) contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Elina Stahmeyer (180-91) replied with 20 points and Chantal Neuwald (180-95) added 15 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Hagen Phoenix. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Koeln maintains twelfth position in North with 3-15 record. Hagen Phoenix lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth place with 11 games lost. Koeln will face higher ranked Braunschweig (#5) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
