Regular Season Round 16: Alges - Sampaense 76-79

The most exciting game of round 16 in the LPB took place in Alges. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of one of their biggest challengers Alges (8-8) to fifth ranked Sampaense (8-7) 79-76 in the game for the fourth place. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 23-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Cape Verdean forward Joel Almeida (195-85, college: Brockport St.) who helped to win the game recording 25 points. American guard Chris Dowe (193-91, college: Bellarmine) contributed with 22 points for the winners. Four Sampaense players scored in double figures. Naturalized Guinea-Bissau forward Josimar Cardoso (201-87) replied with 21 points and 9 rebounds and the former international forward Joao Santos (204-79, college: Nevada) added 15 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Alges. Alges' coach Andre Martins rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sampaense moved-up to fourth place. Alges at the other side dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. Sampaense are looking forward to face Galitos-Tley (#10) in Barreiro in the next round where they are favorite. Alges will play on the road against Maia Basket (#11) and are hoping to win this game.
