Regular Season Round 18: Halle - Freiburg 78-72

Date: February 22, 2014
No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked SV Halle Lions (10-8) defeated at home 8th ranked Eisvogel Freiburg (7-11) 78-72 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Eisvogel Freiburg trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 23-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 72-78 at the end of the game. The former international power forward Katharina Fikiel (194-87) scored 22 points to lead the charge for the winners and American center Ebony Ellis (189-88, college: N.Illinois) chipped in 14 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American point guard Bianca Simmons (168, college: Mass.-Lowell) with 24 points and 6 rebounds and New Caledonian forward Soana Lucet (186-87, college: Arizona) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. SV Halle Lions moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Eisvogel Freiburg keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Oberhausen and Donau-Ries. SV Halle Lions will meet league's second-placed Rhein Main Baskets in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Eisvogel Freiburg will play against BC Pharmaserv Marburg (#5) and hope to secure a win.
