Regular Season Round 17: Ovarense - CAB Madeira 71-68

Very important is a road loss of third ranked CAB Madeira (9-7) against ninth ranked Ovarense (7-9) on Saturday night. Visiting CAB Madeira was edged by Ovarense in a tough game in Ovarense 68-71. It looked good early as CAB Madeira took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Ovarense had a 20-14 second period charge getting the lead and CAB Madeira was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 68-71. Spanish power forward Sergi Coll (204-82) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winning side and international point guard Jose Miguel Barbosa (178-90) accounted for 16 points. Four Ovarense players scored in double figures. American point guard Ricky Franklin (185-87, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) came up with 26 points and the former international swingman Fabio Lima (197-88) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for CAB Madeira in the defeat. Ovarense moved-up to seventh place. CAB Madeira at the other side keeps the third position with seven games lost. They share it with Sampaense. Ovarense will play against league's second-placed Vitoria SC in Guimaraes in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CAB Madeira will play on the road against Academica in Coimbra and hopes to get back on the winning track.
