Very important is a road loss of second ranked BC Donetsk (15-4) against eleventh ranked Cherkasy (7-12) on Wednesday night. Visiting BC Donetsk was crushed by Cherkasy in Cherkasy 100-72. The game was mostly controlled by Cherkasy. BC Donetsk was better in third quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding BC Donetsk to just 7 points in second quarter. Cherkasy dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to BC Donetsk's 32. They outrebounded BC Donetsk 47-26 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Cherkasy especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by BC Donetsk's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) notched a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and naturalized Moldovan guard Andrii Kalnichenko (200-86) supported him with 15 points. Five Cherkasy players scored in double figures. Even 20 points by international swingman Dmytro Gliebov (198-88, agency: Beo Basket) did not help to save the game for BC Donetsk. The former international point guard Pavlo Burenko (184-90) added 17 points and 4 assists for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cherkasy maintains eleventh position with 7-12 record. BC Donetsk at the other side keeps the second place with four games lost. Cherkasy will play against SC Kryvbas (#12) in Kryvyi Rih in the next round. BC Donetsk will have a break next round.
