Regular Season Round 25: Utena - Suduva 71-80

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Utena (7-19) was defeated at home by third ranked Suduva (20-7) 80-71 on Friday. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-71. Suduva made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Utena turnovers. Latvian forward Sabine Dukate (174-93) fired 22 points for the winners. The former international power forward Iveta Salkauske (197-82, college: Illinois, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws). American guard Sakellie Daniels (170-84, college: Charlotte) produced 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and international center Kristina Alminaite (205-90) added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively for lost side. Four Utena players scored in double figures. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Suduva. They maintain third place with 20-7 record having four points less than leader Kibirkstis-VICI. Utena lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with 19 games lost. Suduva will face league's leader Kibirkstis-VICI in Vilnius in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Utena will play on the road against Ruta-Univ. (#8) in Siauliai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
