Rather expected game when 3rd ranked Mersin Kurtulus (2-2) was rolled over at home by top-ranked Cankaya (4-0) 100-73 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Cankaya. Mersin Kurtulus was better in third quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cankaya dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Mersin Kurtulus' 36 and made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Mersin Kurtulus 52-29 including a 37-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Mersin Kurtulus was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Sharon Houston (191-88, college: Indiana NW) fired a double-double by scoring 25 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Nihan Demirkol (172-92) chipped in 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Cankaya players scored in double figures. American guard Erica Wheeler (170-91, college: Rutgers) produced 35 points (!!!) and Gizem Muruvet Uca (170-94) added 13 points, 6 assists and 5 steals respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cankaya have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group E with 4-0 record. Newly promoted Mersin Kurtulus keeps the third place with two games lost. Cankaya will face league's second-placed Yakin Dogu in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mersin Kurtulus will play against Bursa BSB and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
