Second Stage Round 5: Aabyhoj - Vaerlose 61-69

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Aabyhoj (2-3) against fourth ranked Vaerlose (2-3) on Wednesday night. Host Aabyhoj was defeated by Vaerlose in a tough game in Aabyhoj 61-69. The guests trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 69-61. Vaerlose dominated on the defensive end, holding Aabyhoj to just 6 points in second quarter. They also forced 20 Aabyhoj turnovers. Strangely Aabyhoj outrebounded Vaerlose 44-31 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. American point guard Devon Quattrochi (168-91, college: Smith) nailed 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and forward Alberte Dokkedal (186-91) accounted for 13 points and 5 assists. Guard Maria Jespersen (182-94) came up with 24 points and 5 rebounds and American center Britt Harris (188-91, college: W.Washington) added 10 points and 15 rebounds respectively for Aabyhoj in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vaerlose moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Aabyhoj. Vaerlose will meet at home league's leader Stevnsgade in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Aabyhoj will play against Falcon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
