Second Stage Round 5: Mersin Univ. - Edirne 69-62

TKB2L round 5 caused change at the leadership position. First defeat of league's leader Edirne (4-1) against leader Mersin Univ. (5-0) 69-62 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Edirne. It was a key game for the top position in Group F. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-15. But Edirne won second period 12-9. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ukrainian center Elena Staschuk (192-85, agency: LBM Management) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points. Guard Ilknur Dumlu (176-89) contributed with 14 points and 6 assists for the winners. Mersin Univ.'s coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Marcedes Marie Walker (191-86, college: Pittsburgh) answered with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 19 rebounds and Pelin Kuccuk (172-90) added 10 points in the effort for Edirne. Mersin Univ. have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of Group F leader. Edirne at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Mersin Univ.. Edirne will play next round against Izmir Eda trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Mersin Univ. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
