Regular Season Round 26: Phoenix Hagen - Telekom Bsk 82-77

There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Phoenix Hagen (12-14) beat at home higher ranked Telekom Baskets (16-10) 82-77 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 11 points at the halftime before their 48-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Phoenix Hagen made 27-of-31 free shots (87.1 percent) during the game, while Telekom Baskets only scored ten points from the stripe. Strangely Telekom Baskets outrebounded Phoenix Hagen 41-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. The game was also dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was point guard David Bell (187-81, agency: Three Eye Sports) who scored 19 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!). Guard Mark Dorris (188-85, college: Marshall, agency: Court Side) chipped in 22 points. Four Phoenix Hagen players scored in double figures. Tony Gaffney (205-84, college: Massachusetts) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds and forward Jamel McLean (203-88, college: Xavier) added 13 points and 13 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Phoenix Hagen maintains tenth position with 12-14 record. Loser Telekom Baskets keep the sixth place with ten games lost. Phoenix Hagen will face higher ranked Artland Dragons (#6) in Quakenbrueck in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
