Regular Season Round 25: Lietkabelis - Nevezis 96-69

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Panevezys where 9th ranked Nevezis (9-16) was crushed by tenth ranked Lietkabelis (10-18) 96-69. It looked good early as Nevezis took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Lietkabelis had a 27-16 second period charge getting the lead and Nevezis was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-96. Lietkabelis dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Nevezis' 32 and made 22-of-26 charity shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Russian center Ivan Nelyubov (207-88) nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds for the winning side and Croatian guard Goran Vrbanc (194-84) accounted for 24 points. Four Lietkabelis players scored in double figures. Guard Gintaras Leonavicius (194-83, agency: Players Group) came up with 25 points and Tauras Jogela (203-93) added 19 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Nevezis in the defeat. Nevezis' coach Gintaras Leonavicius gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Lietkabelis moved-up to ninth place. Nevezis at the other side dropped to the tenth position with 16 games lost. Lietkabelis will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Nevezis will play on the road against LSU-Atletas (#11) in Kaunas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
