Regular Season Round 25: Azovmash - Mykolaiv 78-69

Everything went according to plan in Mariupol where sixth ranked Azovmash (14-7) beat 8th ranked Mykolaiv (10-12) 78-69 on Wednesday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Azovmash made 25-of-27 free shots (92.6 percent) during the game. Azovmash outrebounded Mykolaiv 49-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Mykolaiv helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international center Igor Zaytsev (210-89) stepped up and scored 25 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and international Maksym Pustozvonov (200-87, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four Azovmash players scored in double figures. Azovmash's coach Zvezdan Mitrovic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Croatian power forward Mateo Kedzo (206-84) responded with 17 points and 6 rebounds and Latvian swingman Zanis Peiners (203-90) scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Azovmash have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain sixth place with 14-7 record. Mykolaiv at the other side keeps the eighth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Hoverla. Azovmash will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Mykolaiv will play on the road against the league's second-placed BC Donetsk (#2) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
