Regular Season Round 28: Giessen 46ers - Magdeburg 76-65
Date: March 22, 2014
Very predictable result when fifth ranked Giessen 46ers (17-11) defeated at home 15th ranked Magdeburg (7-21) 76-65 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Giessen 46ers. Magdeburg was better in fourth quarter 26-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Giessen 46ers made 8 blocks. Magdeburg was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Thierno Agne (200-89, college: Northwood, FL) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and British forward Myles Hesson (198-90) who added 9 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Giessen 46ers players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Drew Maynard (200-89, college: Rochester, MI) responded with 22 points and 6 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Leonard Washington (201-88, college: Wyoming, agency: Two Points) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Magdeburg's coach Dimitris Polychroniadis tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Giessen 46ers moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Ehingen. Magdeburg lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the fourteenth position with 21 games lost. Giessen 46ers will face Kirchheim Knights (#10) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Magdeburg will play against Ehingen/Urspringschule (#4) and hope to win that game.
