Sixteenth-ranked BBC Bayreuth (7-19) used its home court advantage to challenge seventh ranked Telekom Baskets (17-10) on Saturday. The visitors from Bonn managed to secure only eight-point victory 106-98. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of BBC Bayreuth. BBC Bayreuth was trailing by 9 points at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 23-15 charge of Telekom Baskets, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 25-17. Telekom Baskets made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. American players dominated the game. It was an exceptional evening for forward Jamel McLean (203-88, college: Xavier) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 18 rebounds. Guard Ryan Brooks (193-88, college: Temple, agency: Pro One Sports) accounted for 23 points for the winning side. Telekom Baskets' coach Matthias Fischer used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center Brian Qvale (210-88, college: Montana) came up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds and guard D.J. Seeley (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) added 20 points and 6 assists respectively for BBC Bayreuth in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Telekom Baskets moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Art.Dragons. Loser BBC Bayreuth keeps the sixteenth position with 19 games lost. Telekom Baskets will meet TBB Trier (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. BBC Bayreuth will play against New Yorker Phantoms in Braunschweig and hope to secure a win.
