No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Lusitania (8-9) beat on the road 10th ranked Maia Basket (6-13) 71-60. Maia Basket was ahead by 5 points at the halftime before a 42-26 second half run of Lusitania. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. American point guard Jaime Smith (191-89, college: Al.-Huntsville) fired 17 points and 7 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!) for the winners. His fellow American import center Marcel Momplaisir (205-81, college: Rhode Island, agency: Dynamics Global Management) chipped in 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 blocks. Four Lusitania players scored in double figures. The former international forward Nuno Marcal (205-75) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds and center Paulo Diamantino (203-85) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Maia Basket's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Lusitania moved-up to sixth place. Newly promoted Maia Basket dropped to the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Lusitania's next round opponent will be Oliveirense (#7) in Oliveira. Maia Basket will play on the road against the league's second-placed Vitoria SC (#2) in Guimaraes and hope to win that game.
