Regular Season Round 26: DniproAzot - Hoverla 82-58
Date: March 23, 2014
Bottom-ranked DniproAzot managed to get a third victory, breaking the ten-game losing streak on Sunday night. This time they outleveled ninth-ranked Hoverla in Dniprodzerzhynsk 82-58. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 24-point difference proves that DniproAzot was well-prepared to that game. The game was mostly controlled by DniproAzot. Hoverla managed to win fourth quarter 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Hoverla to just 7 points in second quarter. DniproAzot made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international guard Bogdan Bayda (193-89, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) scored 17 points and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Vadim Onishenko (186-89) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) during the contest. Five DniproAzot players scored in double figures. Forward Yurii Frasenyuk (200-86) responded with 13 points and 7 rebounds and the former international center Danylo Kozlov (206-82) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. DniproAzot maintains fourteenth position with 3-22 record. Loser Hoverla dropped to the tenth place with 13 games lost. DniproAzot will meet higher ranked Mykolaiv (#8) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Hoverla will play against Cherkasy and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
