Second Stage Round 6: Kocaeli - Mersin Univ. 53-56

The most exciting game of round 6 in the TKB2L took place in Kocaeli. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd ranked Kocaeli (3-3) to top-ranked Mersin Univ. (5-0) 56-53 on Friday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kocaeli won third quarter 15-8. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Mersin Univ. won last quarter 17-16. Ukrainian center Elena Staschuk (192-85, agency: LBM Management) had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and center Kubra Dicle (187-92) chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Mersin Univ.'s coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American power forward Susan Lester (188-88, college: Butler) with 12 points and 9 rebounds and international Cansu Koksal (185-94) scored 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Mersin Univ. have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of Group F leader. Newly promoted Kocaeli keeps the third place with three games lost. Mersin Univ. are looking forward to face Izmir BSB (#5) at home in the next round. Kocaeli will play against Izmir BSB and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
