Fourteenth-ranked Selcuk Universitesi (6-18) was very close to win a game against seventh ranked Karsiyaka (14-10) on Saturday. Karsiyaka managed to secure only three-point victory 91-88. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Selcuk Universitesi won fourth quarter 24-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Selcuk Universitesi used huge pressure winning it 24-16 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 12-15. Karsiyaka made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. The winners were led by American point guard Bobby Dixon (178-83, college: Troy, agency: Beo Basket) who scored that evening 14 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Yunus Sonsirma (192-92) supported him with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Karsiyaka players scored in double figures. Even 19 points and 9 assists by American point guard Derrick Low (196-86, college: Washington St.) did not help to save the game for Selcuk Universitesi. His fellow American import forward Troy Gillenwater (205-88, college: N.Mexico St.) added 22 points. Karsiyaka moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Besiktas. Selcuk Universitesi lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fourteenth position with 18 games lost. They share it with Mersin. Karsiyaka will meet higher ranked Galatasaray (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Selcuk Universitesi will play against Trabzonspor (#11) and hope to secure a win.
