Regular Season Round 23: Cherno More - Levski Sofia 84-86

The most exciting game of round 23 in the NBL took place in Varna. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 3rd placed Cherno More (14-7) to fourth ranked Levski Sofia (14-6) 86-84 in the game for the third place. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 49-44 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Levski Sofia dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Cherno More's 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Lionel Chalmers (184-80, college: Xavier) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 5 assists. American-FYR Macedonian forward Michael Wilkinson (204-81, college: Wisconsin, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Four Levski Sofia players scored in double figures. The former international point guard Asen Velikov (187-86) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists and Serbian power forward Miljan Pupovic (210-83) added 16 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Cherno More. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Levski Sofia moved-up to third place. Cherno More at the other side dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. Levski Sofia are looking forward to face Tundja Yambol (#5) at home in the next round. Cherno More will play against Rilski and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
