Regular Season Round 21: Alges - CAB Madeira 85-75

The game between third ranked CAB Madeira (10-9) and fifth ranked Alges (11-9) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. CAB Madeira was defeated by Alges in Alges 85-75. The game was mostly controlled by Alges. CAB Madeira managed to win second period 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was international guard Antonio Pires (185-86) who scored 17 points and 8 assists. The former international center Francisco Jordao (203-79) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Alges' coach Andre Martins used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Aaron Anderson (201-91, college: Kennesaw St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and 16 rebounds and the other American import point guard Ricky Franklin (185-87, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) added 18 points and 9 assists respectively. Four Alges and five CAB Madeira players scored in double figures. Alges moved-up to third place, which they share with Sampaense. CAB Madeira at the other side dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Alges is looking forward to face league's leader Benfica at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. CAB Madeira will play against Lusitania (#6) in Angra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
