Regular Season Round 28: Zalgiris - Neptunas 79-88

There was a minor upset in Kaunas where 5th ranked Zalgiris (12-5) was defeated by seventh ranked Neptunas (12-3) 88-79 on Monday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Guard Martynas Mazeika (193-85, agency: Interperformances) fired 18 points and 5 assists for the winners. Forward Simas Galdikas (205-87) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. The former international Paulius Jankunas (203-84, agency: Alti Sport) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and the former international center Robertas Javtokas (210-80, college: Arizona) added 10 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Neptunas and five Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Neptunas have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Defending champion Zalgiris dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. Neptunas will meet higher ranked Siauliai (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Zalgiris will play against Lietkabelis in Panevezys and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
