Regular Season Round 24: Balkan - Spartak Pleven 96-65
Date: April 12, 2014
Not a big story in a game in Botevgrad where 7th ranked Spartak Pleven (5-16) was rolled over by second ranked Balkan (16-5) 96-65 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Balkan. Spartak Pleven managed to win third quarter 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Spartak Pleven 43-32 including a 37-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Balkan looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Stanimir Marinov (192-91) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and American forward Noah Dahlman (200-89, college: Wofford) who added 12 points and 16 rebounds during the contest. Balkan's coach Aleksandar Todorov felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Bosnian center Sasha Topchov (206-80) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and swingman Vasil Aleksandrov (199-90) scored 12 points and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Balkan maintains second position with 16-5 record having four points less than leader Lukoil Acad. Spartak Pleven at the other side keeps the seventh place with 16 games lost. Balkan are looking forward to face league's leader Lukoil Acad. in Sofia in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Spartak Pleven will play on the road against Levski Sofia (#3) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
