Not a big story in a game when 5th ranked Gure (2-6) lost to top-ranked Cankaya (8-0) in Balikesir 62-73 on Saturday. The game without a history. Cankaya led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Gure's 16. They outrebounded Gure 39-28 including 25 on the defensive glass. Cankaya looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international center Candide Ozturk (188-89) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Nihan Demirkol (172-92) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Five Cankaya players scored in double figures. Selin Oztekin (-90) replied with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Fulya Sena Sarigul added 12 points and 4 assists in the effort for Gure. Gure's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cankaya have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group E with 8-0 record. Gure lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with six games lost. Cankaya will face league's second-placed Mersin Kurtulus at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gure will play against Bursa BSB and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
