There was no surprise when 14th ranked New Yorker Phantoms (11-20) lost to third ranked ALBA Berlin (22-7) in Braunschweig 54-69 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 69-54. ALBA Berlin dominated on the defensive end, holding New Yorker Phantoms to just 6 points in second quarter. ALBA Berlin had a 15-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American swingman Reggie Redding (196-88, college: Villanova) who led his team to a victory with 12 points and 4 assists. The other American import point guard Clifford Hammonds (191-85, college: Clemson) contributed with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American center Kyle Visser (211-85, college: Wake Forest) replied with 15 points and 7 rebounds and Cameroonian forward Harding NaNa (203-81, college: Delaware) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for New Yorker Phantoms. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. ALBA Berlin have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 22-7 record having five points less than leader B.Muenchen. New Yorker Phantoms at the other side keep the fourteenth place with 20 games lost. ALBA Berlin will face Artland Dragons (#5) in Quakenbrueck in the next round. New Yorker Phantoms will play at home against the league's leader Bayern Muenchen (#1) and hope to win that game.
