Regular Season Round 27: Turk Telekom - Mersin 79-74

Rather predictable result when twelfth ranked Turk Telekom (11-16) won against 14th ranked Mersin (7-20) in Ankara 79-74 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 5 points. Mersin was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American guard Manny Harris (197-89, college: Michigan) who led his team to a victory with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). His fellow American import swingman Joshua Shipp (196-86, college: UCLA) contributed with 20 points for the winners. FYR Macedonian center Predrag Samardziski (215-86, agency: Beo Basket) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and naturalized American forward Ali Karadeniz (203-80, college: Arizona) added 14 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Mersin. Four Mersin players scored in double figures. Mersin's coach Mete Babaoglu rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Turk Telekom have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to tenth place, which they share with TED Kolejliler. Loser Mersin dropped to the fifteenth position with 20 games lost. Turk Telekom will face higher ranked Anadolu Efes (#3) in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mersin will play at home against the league's leader Banvit BK (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
