Regular Season Round 35: SoyuzBasket - Avangard 77-72

An interesting game for SoyuzBasket (21-2) which hosted in Shahtarsk 4th placed Avangard (18-8). Second ranked SoyuzBasket managed to get a 5-point victory 77-72. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Avangard. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. SoyuzBasket made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Akida McLain (206-86, college: Indiana, PA) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Oleksandr Koroviakov (200-81) contributed with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international center Volodymyr Gurtovyy (207-75) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Pavlo Tsiopych (180-86) added 15 points in the effort for Avangard. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. SoyuzBasket have a solid series of three victories in a row. Newly promoted SoyuzBasket maintains second place with 21-2 record behind leader Kirovograd. Avangard at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fourth position with eight games lost. SoyuzBasket are looking forward to face Dnepr (#6) in Dnepropetrovsk in the next round. Avangard will play on the road against VolinBasket in Lutsk and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
