Regular Season Round 2: Finke Baskets - Jena 77-85

There was a minor upset in Paderborn where Finke Baskets (1-1) were defeated by Science City Jena (1-1) 85-77 on Friday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-12. But Finke Baskets won third quarter 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Science City Jena forced 26 Finke Baskets turnovers. Finke Baskets were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Lithuanian Jokubas Gintvainis (193-94) scored 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Wayne Bernard (190-81, college: Davidson) chipped in 17 points and 4 assists during the contest. Four Science City Jena players scored in double figures. American guard Thomas Bropleh (196, college: Boise St.) responded with 27 points and his fellow American import guard Reggie Willhite (193-88, college: Yale) scored 13 points. Finke Baskets' coach Uli Naechster rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Science City Jena will face Giessen 46ers at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Finke Baskets will play against BV Chemnitz 99 and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
