There was no surprise when Cuxhaven BasCats (0-2) were defeated at home by Hamburg (2-0) 72-64 on Friday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 72-64. Hamburg forced 19 Cuxhaven BasCats turnovers. Center Michael Wenzl (210-91) had a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Canadian swingman Terry Thomas (193-91) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. American guard Aaron Cook (186-83, college: Hartford) responded with 11 points and 9 assists and his fellow American import center Edward Seward (206-78, college: Norfolk St.) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Four Cuxhaven BasCats players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hamburg will face Kirchheim Knights on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cuxhaven BasCats will play against Nuernberg in Nurnberg and hope to win that game.
