There was a small surprise when BG Karlsruhe (1-1) beat on the road SG Schwelmer Baskets (1-1) 73-68 on Saturday. Strangely SG Schwelmer Baskets outrebounded BG Karlsruhe 48-35 including a 48-35 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Rouven Roessler (198-80) who scored 28 points and 5 rebounds. Australian-British forward Paul Brotherson (198-89, college: Metro St.) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Center Sebastian Schroter (207-83) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and Canadian swingman Chris Johnson (196-88, college: St.Bonaventure) added 10 points and 18 rebounds respectively for the hosts. BG Karlsruhe will face Speyer at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SG Schwelmer Baskets will play against Dragons Rhoendorf and hope to win that game.
