Karsiyaka used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Balikesir 64-60 on Sunday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-13. But Banvit BK won second period 15-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Banvit BK was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Colombian-Spanish power forward Juan Palacios (206-85) stepped up and scored 8 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and American point guard Bobby Dixon (178-83, college: Troy, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 15 points. Karsiyaka's coach Ufuk Sarica used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Dominican-American guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) responded with 10 points and 7 rebounds and Belarusian-Russian forward Vladimir Veremeenko (208-84) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Karsiyaka will face Edirne Basket on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Banvit BK will play against Galatasaray and hope to win that game.
