Regular Season Round 4: Speyer - Licher Baeren 72-77

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Licher Basket and 11th ranked Speyer had identical 1-2 record. But Speyer was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Lich 77-72 on Saturday night. Licher Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Speyer's 30 and made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Licher Basket forced 20 Speyer turnovers. Speyer was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American players dominated the game. Quite impressive performance for Andrae Nelson (201-91, college: Morehouse) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Jermale Jones (186-86, college: Tuskegee) contributed with 14 points and 4 steals (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners. Jones is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Guard DJ Woodmore (190-92, college: Va.Wesleyan) replied with 19 points and center Khobi Williamson (201-92, college: Hampden-Sydney) added 11 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Speyer. Four Speyer players scored in double figures. Speyer's coach Mbassa Carl let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Licher Basket (2-2) moved-up to fifth place in Group South, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Speyer dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. Licher Basket will face Saarlouis (#9) at home in the next round. Speyer will play against Fraport Skyliners II and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
