Date: October 18, 2014
The biggest surprise of round 5 was guest Rotenburg/Scheessel's (3-2) road victory over ChemCats Chemnitz (#6) 86-76 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of ChemCats Chemnitz. The game was mostly controlled by Rotenburg/Scheessel. ChemCats Chemnitz managed to win fourth quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American power forward Kierra Mallard (190-90, college: Texas Tech) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds. Czech guard Katarina Flasarova (171-85) chipped in 18 points. International point guard Tina Menz (175-88) produced 17 points and 4 assists and Bosnian Marina Dzinic (190-92) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Rotenburg/Scheessel moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Halle. ChemCats Chemnitz at the other side keeps the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Rotenburg/Scheessel is looking forward to face higher ranked TV Saarlouis Royals (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ChemCats Chemnitz will play against SV Halle Lions and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
