There was no surprise when 10th ranked Oberhausen (1-4) was defeated at home by fourth ranked SV Halle Lions (3-2) 69-54 on Saturday. SV Halle Lions outrebounded Oberhausen 44-27 including a 31-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American power forward Mekia Valentine (193-88, college: UCSB) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Jasmine Newsome (168-91, college: Tenn-Martin) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists. American forward Monique Reid (185-90, college: Louisville) produced 14 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and the former international point guard Lea Mersch (170-87) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. SV Halle Lions maintains fourth place with 3-2 record, which they share with BG 89 Avides. Oberhausen lost their third game in a row. They keep the tenth position with four games lost. SV Halle Lions will face ChemCats Chemnitz (#8) at home in the next round. Oberhausen will play against Rhein Main Baskets in Langen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
