Regular Season Round 4: Opladen - Neuss 70-50

There was a surprise result in Leverkusen where ninth ranked SG BBZ Opladen (2-2) smashed higher ranked TG Neuss (2-2) 70-50 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by SG BBZ Opladen. TG Neuss was better in second period 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding TG Neuss to just 4 points in third quarter. SG BBZ Opladen dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to TG Neuss' 28. They outrebounded TG Neuss 41-28 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Romanian power forward Elke Henning (185-85) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and Julia Krause (195) who added 13 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. SG BBZ Opladen's coach Birgit Kunel used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side swingman Franziska Worthmann (177-86, college: Robert Morris) responded with 16 points and American guard Marquita Waller (180-88, college: VCU) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. SG BBZ Opladen moved-up to fifth place in North, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated TG Neuss. SG BBZ Opladen will face Zehlendorf in Berlin in the next round and are hoping to win another game. TG Neuss will play at home against Hagen Phoenix and hope to win that game.
