Regular Season Round 8: Lietuvos rytas - Zalgiris 82-84

Date: October 19, 2014
The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Lietuvos rytas (6-1) in Vilnius on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by third ranked Zalgiris (6-1) 84-82. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Lietuvos rytas. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 30-27 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Paulius Jankunas (203-84) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and guard Edgaras Ulanovas (197-92) who added 10 points during the contest. Zalgiris' coach Gintaras Krapikas used entire bench in such tough game. The former international center Antanas Kavaliauskas (207-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) responded with 23 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Gediminas Orelikas (200-90) scored 18 points. Four Lietuvos rytas players scored in double figures. Zalgiris have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Lietuvos rytas. Zalgiris is looking forward to face Siauliai on the road in the next round. Lietuvos rytas will play against the league's leader Neptunas in Klaipeda and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
