Regular Season Round 4: Budivelnyk - Khimik 83-84

The most exciting game of round 4 in the Superleague took place in Kyiv. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 5th ranked Budivelnyk (1-2) to top-ranked Khimik (4-0) 84-83 on Friday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-22. But Budivelnyk won second period 21-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Khimik shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. 27 personal fouls committed by Budivelnyk helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Derek Needham (180-90, college: Fairfield) who helped to win the game recording 25 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). International power forward Maxym Korniyenko (204-87, agency: Beo Basket) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Denys Lukashov (190-89, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) replied with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and naturalized Lithuanian center Michailis Anisimovas (216-84) added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Budivelnyk. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Khimik have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record. Defending champion Budivelnyk dropped to the sixth place with two games lost. They share the position with BC Odessa and BC Kyiv. Khimik are looking forward to face BC Kyiv on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Budivelnyk will play against BC Odessa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
