Regular Season Round 8: Zalgiris II - Rasai 77-74

Everything could happen in Kaunas at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Zalgiris II and 10th ranked Rasai had identical 3-4 record. This time Zalgiris II used a home court advantage and edged the opponent from 77-74 on Saturday night. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-16. But Rasai won third quarter 20-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was power forward Martynas Echodas (204-97) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Paulius Valinskas (190-95) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center Karolis Guscikas (205-92) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and forward Valdemaras Savostjanovas (200-84) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Rasai players scored in double figures. Zalgiris II have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Newly promoted Rasai dropped to the eleventh position with five games lost. Zalgiris II will face league's second-placed Ezerunas-Karys in Moletai in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Rasai will play on the road against Vilnius Palanga (#14) and hope to win that game.
