Regular Season Round 4: Steaua CSM - Ploiesti 86-84

There was a change at the Liga Nationala leadership position after last games. The most important game of round 4 took place in Bucuresti between two undefeated teams where Steaua CSM edged Ploiesti (3-1) 86-84 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Ploiesti. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 20-13 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Steaua CSM outrebounded Ploiesti 39-20 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American Bill Amis (206-87, college: Hawaii) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and Croatian guard Pankracije Barac (196-81, agency: Court Side) who added 15 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Steaua CSM's coach Niksa Bavcevic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Lithuanian guard Marius Runkauskas (189-86) responded with 20 points and American point guard Dee Brown (185-84, college: Illinois, agency: Priority Sports) scored 12 points and 9 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Steaua CSM have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Defending champion Ploiesti dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Pitesti and Craiova. They were replaced at the leadership position by Steaua CSM. Ploiesti will play next round against Timba Timosoara trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Steaua CSM will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Oradea on the road.
