Regular Season Round 9: Neptunas - Lietuvos rytas 65-73

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Neptunas (7-1) in Klaipeda on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by Lietuvos rytas (7-1) 73-65. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Neptunas. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 6-1 record before this meeting. Neptunas trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 25-22 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 65-73 at the end of the game. Lietuvos rytas made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was swingman Gediminas Orelikas (200-90) who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Arturas Valeika (207-85, college: Midland CC) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). At the other side the best for losing team was guard Mindaugas Girdziunas (189-89) who recorded 11 points and 4 assists and forward Donatas Zavackas (203-80, college: Pittsburgh) added 10 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lietuvos rytas keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Zalgiris and Neptunas. Lietuvos rytas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Neptunas will play at home against Siauliai and is hoping to win this game.
