Regular Season Round 3: Lukoil Acad. - Rilski 105-91

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Rilski (1-1) in Sofia on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Lukoil Acad. (3-0) 105-91. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Lukoil Acad. made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Charles Thomas (203-86, college: Arkansas) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points. His fellow American import guard Morris Curry (181-87, college: Providence) helped adding 10 points and 9 assists. Lukoil Acad.'s coach Jovica Arsic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Vernon Taylor (192-87, college: Troy) with 28 points and 4 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and the former international guard Zlatin Georgiev (196-85) scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Five Lukoil Acad. and four Rilski players scored in double figures. Lukoil Acad. are looking forward to face Spartak Pleven on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rilski will play against Beroe and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
