Regular Season Round 5: Hoverla - Ferro-ZNTU 76-74

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Ferro-ZNTU (3-1) in Frankivsk on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by tenth ranked Hoverla (1-2) 76-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Ferro-ZNTU. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. They outrebounded Ferro-ZNTU 37-26 including 22 on the defensive glass. Hoverla looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American forward Ricardo Glenn (203-90, college: USC Upstate, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import point guard Mackey McKnight (183, college: Lehigh, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) chipped in 13 points and 7 assists. Hoverla's coach Evgeni Murzin used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Alexander Rybalko (190-79) responded with 21 points and 5 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international guard Mykola Vilkhovetskyi (191-88) scored 19 points. Four Ferro-ZNTU players scored in double figures. Hoverla left bottom position moving up to seventh place. Ferro-ZNTU at the other side keeps the second position with one game lost. They share it with Dnipro and Cherkasy. Hoverla are looking forward to face league's leader Khimik in Yuzhny in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ferro-ZNTU will play on the road against Cherkasy.
