Regular Season Round 4: Mersin - Socar Petkim 71-80
Date: October 29, 2014
Not a big story in a game when 15th ranked Mersin (1-3) lost to second ranked Socar Petkim (3-1) in Akdeniz 71-80 on Wednesday. Mersin trailed by 15 points at halftime and as many as 16 after three quarters before a 22-15 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 71-80 at the end of the game. Socar Petkim forced 19 Mersin turnovers and outrebounded them 37-23 including a 17-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by American-DR Congolese center Bambale Osby (203-86, college: Maryland) who scored that evening 22 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Tyler Smith (201-86, college: Tennessee) supported him with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Osby is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 18 points and 10 assists by American guard Henry Antwan Dobie (183-78, college: LIU Brooklyn) did not help to save the game for Mersin. Center Barbaros Bozkurt (210-88) added 16 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Socar Petkim maintains second position with 3-1 record behind leader Sakarya BSB, which they share with 6 other teams. Loser Mersin dropped to the twelfth place with three games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Socar Petkim will meet at home Meliksah in the next round where they are favorite. Mersin will play against Mamak DSI in Ankara and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the TBL just one year after relegation.
