Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Istanbul: Fenerbahce and Istanbul Universitesi. Fenerbahce (1-0) won against visiting Istanbul Universitesi (0-1) 78-67. The game was mostly controlled by Fenerbahce. Istanbul Universitesi managed to win second period 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fenerbahce forced 19 Istanbul Universitesi turnovers. The game was dominated by American players. Center Tina Charles (193-88, college: Connecticut) stepped up and scored 28 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Angel McCoughtry (187-86, college: Louisville) chipped in 14 points and 5 steals. Fenerbahce's coach Jacek Winnicki used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Shenise Johnson (181-90, college: Miami, FL) responded with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and center Courtney Paris (191-87, college: Oklahoma) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. Four Fenerbahce and five Istanbul Universitesi players scored in double figures. Fenerbahce will meet Osmaniye in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Istanbul Universitesi will play against Adana ASKI and hope to win that game.
