Regular Season Round 8: Giessen 46ers - Baunach 80-73

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Giessen 46ers and 10th ranked Baunach had identical 4-3 record. This time Giessen 46ers used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Baunach 80-73 on Sunday night. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-17. But Baunach won second period 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Giessen 46ers made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Naturalized American guard T.J. DiLeo (190-90, college: Temple) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. American guard Eric Palm (188-87, college: McKendree, agency: I.D.S. Law) contributed with 14 points and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Marcos Knight (188-89, college: Middle Tenn.St.) replied with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Johannes Thiemann (203-94) added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Baunach. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Baunach's coach Ivan Pavic let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Giessen 46ers have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 4 other teams. Baunach lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Giessen 46ers will face SC Rasta Vechta (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Baunach will play against the league's second-placed ETB Wohnbau and hope to win that game.
